We are looking for volunteers to help elderly and vulnerable people tidy up and bring new life to their gardens. This would be an ad hoc volunteering role as and when needed.

No specific skills are required for this role but a love of gardening may help.

All volunteering will be done in a secure way with a risk assessment carried out by a member of staff beforehand.

Volunteer Opportunity – Crisis Response Volunteer

UCAN has successfully provided humanitarian aid to refugees arriving at Stansted Airport. We are now looking to create a Crisis Response Team who we will be able to mobilise and respond to crisis in Uttlesford at short notice.

UCAN over the past year has successfully provided humanitarian aid to refugees arriving at Stansted Airport. We are now looking to create a Crisis Response Team who we will be able to mobilise and respond to crisis in Uttlesford at short notice.

We are looking for Volunteers to join a team of Crisis Response Volunteers to help support any emergencies and any other incidents that occur in Uttlesford. Working with partner organisations (Red Cross, Uttlesford District Council, Transport etc). As we are in close proximity to Stansted Airport, we are often asked to provide humanitarian aid to refugees arriving in the country.
This role will be very varied depending on the needs and can range from activities like arranging shelter, travel, food, medical information for people arriving or resident in Uttlesford due to a local/National/International Emergency.
You will always be working in a small team alongside other organisations. Full training will be given.
This role will be on an as and when needed, but occasionally it maybe at short notice dependant on what the emergency is and the situation.
Travel expenses can be reimbursed.

Volunteer Opportunity – Help at the Thaxted Festival

Thaxted Festival is host to leading professional musicians across all styles and genres, for four weekends in June and July. It depends on volunteers for its successful smooth operation. Could you be part of their team,  helping with preparation, working behind the scenes, or welcoming audiences?

Help is needed with:

  • Box office and ticketing support
  • Lighting, sound and technical assistance.
  • Support for their artists during set-up, rehearsal and performance times.
  • Marketing and promotion through social media and traditional channels.
  • Catering volunteer to assist with refreshments

This year the summer festival is 21st June – 14th July although volunteers are needed throughout the year.

We are looking for volunteers to support our Mobile Hub coordinator, taking the UCAN Hub out to various locations throughout Uttlesford improving access to support our services in the district.

We are looking for a volunteer Drivers Mate to support our Mobile Hub coordinator, taking the UCAN Hub out to various locations throughout Uttlesford improving access to support our services in the district.

You will need to meet at a farm just outside Great Dunmow.

Help is needed with:

  • Getting the vehicle out of the storage space
  • Loading the Hub
  • Accompany the Driver (can drive if hold a driving licence with D1)
  • Setting up the Hub on arrival at the destination
  • Packing up at the end of the session
  • Assistance in guiding the hub drive to reverse into barn

Times to be agreed 4 – 5 hours. This is an ad hoc role dates to be confirmed.

  • This is a physical role so some strength will be needed.

As a volunteer at baby and toddler rhyme times, you will deliver rhyme sessions, and support the development of children by sharing your enjoyment of books and rhymes.

What will it involve?

  • Preparing the children’s library for the session – putting out chairs and selecting stories and rhymes
  • Meeting and greeting the parents/carers and children and making everyone feel welcome
  • Joining in or delivering the session and building a good rapport with the group
  • Chatting with families about the benefits of early book sharing and the importance of talking and singing rhymes with their children
  • Directing specific enquiries to library staff
  • Clearing the area once the session end

Skills:

  • Warmth and friendliness
  • Able to relate to children and their families
  • Enthusiasm to promote sharing books and reading with families
  • An enthusiasm for libraries and awareness of the range of services offered

The Wholesome Charity are supporting families who are struggling with the cost of living. They are  running a Cooking Workshop and Supper Club on a Wednesday between 5 – 7pm at Dunmow.

The club provides social interaction for families while providing activities for the children including a hot meal.

We are looking for volunteers who like working with children. If you have an interest in crafts or games which you would like to share with the children or have experience as a cook to prepare and cook ‘homestyle’ meals for the sessions we would like to hear from you. Commercial kitchen experience preferred but not essential.

They are looking for someone who is able to commit approx. two hours per week to help with general office and HR related tasks during office hours. Hours to be by mutual agreement between volunteer and Department Manager.

Ideally, you will have had some previous experience of basic office administration and have good communication skills.

You could be someone wanting to learn more about office administration including general admin, human resources and/or finance to pursue a career in this area; someone returning to work after a gap or someone who finds they have additional time and wants to do something worthwhile.

The office is based, just off the M11, junction 8 Bishops Stortford/Birchanger services roundabout towards Takeley.

Skills needed:

Previous admin experience to include data input and Microsoft Office desirable together with good communication skills.
