We operate Community Fridges in Great Dunmow and Saffron Walden. They are open weekdays for anyone to come and take fresh food items that they can make good use of.
The Community Fridges are supported by Tesco Stores and the Cooperative Society who provide donated food items that would otherwise go to waste. These “too good to waste” items are collected by our volunteers each morning, who restock the fridges. They also monitor the fridge temperatures and quality of the food, and clean the fridges and equipment.
We also receive food donations from local caterers, fruiterers and retailers when they have items left over.
During the winter months we supplement the fridge stocks with additional items that we buy using our food support grant.
The fridges are open to anyone that needs a little bit of extra food to supplement their weekly shop due to the cost of living, or people using the Uttlesford Foodbank which provides an excellent service, but is unable to supply fresh food items.
The Dunmow Community Fridge is based in Rowena Davey Centre, Chequers Lane, Great Dunmow, Dunmow CM6 1EQ . The Saffron Walden fridge is in Jubilee Hub, 3 Hill Street, Saffron Walden come and see what we have on offer.
