Volunteer Opportunity: Treasurer needed!

Saffron Walden Museum Society are seeking a volunteer Treasurer to monitor the financial administration of the charity.

Saffron Walden Museum is one of the oldest purpose-built museums in the UK, with its original founding collections, as it was first established in 1835.

They are looking for a Treasurer to monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the board of trustees at regular intervals on its state of financial health, in line with best practice and in compliance with the governing documents and legal requirements to provide the Board with the confidence to better make strategic decisions. This role can be from home with quarterly meetings of the Museum Society Board, and additional meetings with the Museum Society Directors and Museum staff as needed.

Tasks to include:

  • Overseeing and presenting budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the board of trustees.
  • Leading in the Board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested, and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading in the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost management and investment policies.
  • Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.
  • Overseeing the implementation of the monitoring specific financial controls and adherence to systems and the charity’s risk management process.
  • Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan.
  • Managing the charity’s banking facilities and acting as lead signature on on-line and cheque payments.
  • Board-level liaison with the independent examiner
