Community Speed Watch are looking for more people to get involved to help reduce traffic speeds in our more rural areas.
Volunteers give up their time to monitor the speed of vehicles passing through villages using hand-held speed guns, to help keep road users safe. And when drivers stop, volunteers are keen to talk about the importance of drivers keeping their speeds low.
Details of vehicles which exceed the speed limit are passed to police, who then write to the vehicle owner to advise them of the dangers and impact of speeding.
Community Speed Watch is supported by Essex Police and the Safer Essex Road Partnership and we’d encourage everyone to join and make a difference in your community.

Volunteers are trained by the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) to use hand-held speed guns safely and correctly and to record the speeds of passing vehicles.
You will be joining around 1,000 committed volunteers helping to make our roads safer by encouraging drivers to reduce their speed and contribute towards SERP’s Vision Zero strategy, which aims to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on Essex roads to zero by 2040.
