The Jubilee Hub Community Fridge in Saffron Walden needs help with picking up food from local suppliers and stocking and maintaining the fridge.

Food waste is a big issue in the UK. It is estimated that a third of all food gets wasted. Most of this is avoidable and could have been eaten had it been better managed.
Community Fridge Volunteers are needed to collect foods/edible products from our suppliers and put them in the fridge at the Jubilee hub, remove out of date items. To promote the community fridge. Monitor and record the fridge temperature and inform the ops manager if out of range. Monitor the foods in and any wastage. Keep the fridge clean. Timings of collection and delivery to be agreed with suppliers and volunteers.
Volunteers can be flexible on their availability. The fridge is open from Monday to Friday and volunteers are encouraged to co-ordinate their availability with other Community Fridge Volunteers already on the rota. The role should take no more than an hour a day.

Key Skills:

Driver (helpful although not essential), understanding of food expiry date labels, ability to recognise
damaged packaging/contaminated food in packaging. Basic food hygiene training is an advantage. You will receive instructions on how to perform the role and basic volunteer training.
